Co-operation between Science Teachers and Mathematics Teachers

Six resources in the Co-operation between Science Teachers and Mathematics Teachers series produced by the ISCU Committee on the Teaching of Science considers how mathematics is used in other areas of the curriculum.

Functions and Physics looks at how functions are used in Hooke’s law, how quadratic equations are used when exploring acceleration, and mathematical functions used in electronics.

Links between Geography and Mathematics considers areas of land when looking at food and settlement, route matrices used to plan transport provision, and how volume is used to calculate flow rates of rivers.

Common Ground for the Mathematics and Biology Teacher considers how set notation, tree diagrams and probability are used in the study of genetics.

Mathematics and Chemistry considers how a number of mathematical concepts are used in chemistry such as how proportion is used in chemical equations, formulae are used, explores how gradients of graphs are used as well as Venn diagrams, topology and probability.

Mathematical Modelling considers the modelling process and covers forecasting, handicapping, planning, predicting, estimating and decision making.

Mathematical Modelling with Calculus considers a variety of situations that can be modelled using differential equations.
