Guidance Notes for Planning Materials

These materials, from the National Strategies, have been written to support a mathematics teacher in a mainstream classroom working with one or a number of students that are working at or below level three.

Students working at level three and below can access relatively sophisticated concepts and make links between them if they are given the resources and activities to support their thinking and developing understanding such as these offered here.

Possible barriers to progress can be tackled using approaches such as those described in the guidance. These materials offer a starting point and are not the only way to address the difficulties.
