Learning to be a primary teacher: core knowledge and understanding

This is an essential core text for all primary trainees and beginning teachers, covering the key knowledge, understanding and skills new teachers should have. It addresses all aspects of the Teachers' Standards and includes important and seminal research findings in relation to the content of each chapter, with a clear emphasis on evidence-based teaching. Theory and research are explicitly applied to practice, and there is a complete chapter dedicated to learning to use research.

Other chapters cover subject knowledge and pedagogy, child development, planning and differentiation, assessment, behaviour management, special educational needs and disability, and professionalism. Clear objectives and professional links are provided at the start of each chapter, questions integrated throughout encourage the reader to evaluate, challenge and apply, and critical reflections clearly summarise and extend chapter content.
