Science debate kit: electricity distribution
The kit discusses whether building pylons should be allowed so as to connect new electricity generation facilities, like wind farms, to the National Grid. This question sets ground for the discussion all the issues surrounding Electricity Distribution. The kit shows students how complex this topic is, and encourages them to explore and think about some of the main concerns surrounding the ethics of energy distribution.
The kit provides all you need to get your students discussing the associated personal, social and economic issues and to help them appreciate the power and limitations of science. The structure shows students how to build a discussion and back up their opinions with facts.
The kit follows our tried and tested format, based on character cards and lesson notes; the activity takes very little preparation and is designed to last around 50 minutes.
