Fractions: Whole, Half and Quarter
This series of interactive excel sheets aimed at Year Two students explores fractions. Answers can be checked each time and new questions generated at the click of a button.
The first sheet shows six shapes split into quarters in six different ways. Quarters can be coloured by clicking on them, or colourings generated at random for discussion.
In the second sheet students have to colour in half of the smiley faces shown in the grid. In the following sheet a quarter of the faces have to be coloured in.
In the fourth sheet students have to say whether half, a quarter or the whole of a grid is shaded in. In the next sheet students then have to shade in the correct number of squares in the grid to represent a half, quarter or whole. The following sheet repeats this process for sections of a circle.
The seventh sheet explores the concept of being half way between two numbers. A number line between 0 and 10 is shown and pupils have to place the arrow at a given value.
In the eighth sheet a picture is generated and pupils have to say if the value represented is either less than, the same as or more than either 1/4, 1/2 or 3/4.
