Maths in the environment

Maths in the environment provides an environmental view of maths using topics such as human population, animal lifecycles and mathematical shapes in nature to engage students and help them to develop a wider understanding of how maths is a part of everyday life. Capitalising on students' interest in green issues this resource boosts Functional Maths skills.

Full of hands-on tasks with students required to collect, present and analyse their own data, Maths in the environment helps students to develop their understanding and comprehension of a wide spectrum of maths functions giving them confidence and familiarity with Functional Maths requirements.

Contents include:

- Estimating populations
- Calculating bacterial growth
- Positive and negative numbers
- The Fibonacci sequence.

Maths in the environment is a fully photocopiable workbook that contains 49 worksheets, teacher's notes and full answers.

Suitable for Key Stage 4 (S3 and S4).
Activities are mostly at Level 2 (SCQF level 5).
Most suitable for higher tier maths students.
