This course provides vital introduction to Engineering for non-specialists or early career teachers (ECT) who are new to teaching secondary engineering.


Summary

This course provides a vital introduction to engineering for teachers who are new to the subject. The course will focus on the requirements of GCSE Engineering, but we will also explore how engineering can be embedded across Key Stage 3 and how to support further progression routes for your students.

You will work with experienced engineering teachers to gain an insight into the subject, explore classroom-based teaching strategies and materials, as well as a range of ideas around how engineering can be practically delivered within your setting, with plenty of examples of good practice.

Who is it for?

Teachers of other subjects who have been asked to deliver engineering in their setting, as well as early career teacher of engineering (ECTs).

What topics are covered?

The programme will cover:

  • What is Engineering and why is it important for society and the economy
  • What  engineers do and how do students become engineers
  • Engineering teaching pedagogy including ‘Engineering Habits of Mind’
  • Classroom ideas and resources to enthuse and inspire
