Mission X 2022 has launched - get your pupils to train like an astronaut now!
Mission X is a free educational programme developed by space scientists and fitness professionals working with astronauts and space agencies across the world. It uses the excitement of space exploration to inspire children to learn about science, nutrition, exercise and space and is aimed at children aged 8 to 12 but can be adapted to suit other ages. The programme can be delivered either through the curriculum, through collapsed timetable days, through homework challenges or clubs … or a mixture!
The international challenge for Mission X is running this year from 13 January to 31 May 2022. During the challenge students complete a mix of science and exercise Mission X activities, and these activities are converted to points which are uploaded to the website. Each point helps the Mission X mascots, Luna and Leo, walk to the Moon.
Teachers who've participated in Mission X previously, have provided great feedback, emphasising the new connections they've made through the project; how Mission X has enhanced their teaching; and the positive impact it had on their pupils' interest and attainment. Here are just some of the comments we've received from the 2021 round of the project.
“Mission X has really got the handle on everything because it's got such a wide variety of things that you do. You can do some of it, you can do all of it, you can dip in and out. You don't have to do all of it in one go. That's really hit the nail on the head and made it really suitable, accessible to schools and has kept going for years.”“It enabled me to build up relationships with teachers in art, music, English and PE rather than purely in the science faculty”“This project gave me more confidence to lead science activities and I found that science could be fun and relevant”“They [pupils] learn about themselves and develop a sense of self-competition. Great for confidence building”
