The courses in this package will introduce you to the skills, knowledge and understanding of the different elements of the primary science curriculum. You can take the five courses in this package in any order, and work at your own pace. You will receive access to all five courses for 12 months by booking through this page:

Who is it for?
These online courses are for primary teachers and trainee teachers for primary education (pupils aged 5-11 years). Teaching assistants may also be interested in developing their subject knowledge through this course. The English National Curriculum will be referred to, but teachers will be able to apply subject knowledge to their own curricula.
What topics are covered?
These courses cover:
- commons misconceptions specific to each area of the primary science curriculum
- activities to elicit misconceptions
- subject knowledge
- true false statements, odd one out and sorting activities
- scientific vocabulary
- a range of classroom activities and teaching approaches
How will you learn?
These online, self-paced courses can be completed flexibly. Participants can join and start this course at any time after the advertised date.
These courses are not facilitated. You can learn independently or with colleagues to directly address your individual needs.
How long is this course?
The courses in this package take between approximately 6 and 9 hours to complete. You do not need to be online at any specific time, and you can take the course at your own pace.

Outcomes
By the end of these courses, you will be able to:
- identify the importance of good subject knowledge when teaching primary science
- develop personal subject knowledge of chemistry, physics, and biology
- apply subject knowledge to class teaching of pupils aged 5-11 years old
- explore practical activities to teach scientific concepts in the primary curriculum
- identify common misconceptions children may have in primary science concepts
- develop teaching strategies to identify and overcome children’s misconceptions
